Across The Tracks

John Carver B&W
Presented by John Carver
next on air Sun 20 May 8:00pm to 10:00pm

So much music so little time!

There is only one place in Melbourne where you can hear the best of the latest releases from both new and established artists, across all genres. Across The Tracks is your window into the new, the exciting and the often eclectic.

In the tradition of Chris Winter’s Room to Move and Billy Pinnell’s The Album Show, Across The Tracks makes musical journeys that take their time and let you savour the album, not just the single.

Presented by John Carver, a broadcaster with very diverse musical tastes and a large collection of music (one case where size actually does matter) Across The Tracks not only brings the new but also adds a unique musical context by mining each artist’s influences and making musical juxtapositions.

John has been doing this for twenty years on PBS, starting with a program called In Search of a Perfect Groove in 1990 and now coming the full circle to return to Sunday nights. What a way to wind down the weekend and set up a worthy start to your new week.

Each week John sifts through piles of new releases to find the best and crafts together six albums from diverse genres to make a show that travels a different sort of musical highway.

There will be a broad range of established artists as well as new artists who deserve to be heard in the same company. You’ll experience music from genres you know and love and others you may not be so familiar with. It’s kind of a musical smorgasbord.

And midway through every show John presents his weekly Essential Album, an opportunity to dig even deeper into some really great sounds.

So every Sunday night, pour yourself a glass of your favourite tipple, get ensconsed in your biggest comfortable chair and, as the song says, turn up the radio. It’s your weekend indulgence!

Join John every Sunday night from 8 pm on air or via the web. Or catch up on shows you’ve missed using PBS’ Audio Archive.
