“I was most inspired by a sense of change, positivity. I wanted the songs to be uplifting. I was talking to someone who said they’d listened to my very first EP [2007], and then the one in 2010, and that there was an undertone of sadness in both... That’s true. It’s good to be on the other side of that.”

Arresting, melodic, and full of charm: You Go Your Way, I’ll Go Mine is the debut album by Melbourne singer/songwriter Ainslie Wills. Following up on the promise of 2010 EP Somebody For Everyone, You Go Your Way, I’ll Go Mine is 12 tracks of textured, atmospheric storytelling: spiky, warm pop (“Fighting Kind”, “Stop Pulling The String”), jazzy synth odes to love (“Weighing The Promises”), guitar swells and crescendos (“Ocean”), soulful promises of sunnier days ahead (“Early Morning Light”). Focused but never formal, it’s an album steeped in honesty – and a sound Ainslie’s own.

The singer (who earned a nod in the 2012 EG Awards ‘Outstanding Achievement By A Victorian Artist’ category) penned six tracks off You Go Your Way, I’ll Go Mine with guitarist/co-producer Lawrence Folvig. The film’s dialogue “summed up the creative process Lawrence and I went through, because we did stick to our guns. It wasn’t working together from scratch; it was, ‘Okay, you write music, I’ll write melodies... then let’s bring it all together, we were working in parallel, heading in the same direction’”

The independently released album by Wills, released March 2013 has already been receiving positive feedback with Rolling Stone naming it 'a beguiling debut' and triple j's Dom Alessio - 'dark, moody and self-assured'

Known for her sonically arresting live show and undulating and emotionally charged voice, Wills is surely and steadily making a name for herself in Australia, Europe and America.
