by Old Man Luedecke

Tender is the Night is the 5th full-length album for Canadian musician Chris Luedecke. This album is a lovely mixture of folk and bluegrass, with Luedecke’s warm and earnest voice effectively conveying the emotions and stories in the songs. Listening to the album, I kept thinking that perhaps this is what Paul Simon would have sounded like if he had been a bluegrass musician.

A particular highlight is the song ‘Little Stream of Whiskey’, which may bring melancholic tears to your eyes (it did for me). Luedecke’s falsetto sections in this song are beautiful, and the tune was stuck in my mind for days.

With tastefully understated arrangements, and great musicianship throughout, Tender is the Night is an album that grows on you with multiple listens, as the nuances of the songs sink in. Old Man Luedecke is touring Australia in October and November with Jordie Lane – Playing at the Northcote Social Club on the 9th of November.
