Hyperborea is Melbourne based synthesist James Tom's solo project augmented live with drummer Dylan Lieberman and guitarist Adam Halliwell.

James has played in six other groups since moving to Melbourne 2006. These include Geoffrey O' Connor, Prudence Rees-Lee and his longest running project progressive rock trio Krakatau. Over the years the increased interest in analogue synthesizer music from the '70s and minimal composition led to the formation of Hyperborea. A project that encompasses a broad range of influence while at it's foundations focusing on complexity within minimalism and the marriage of past sensibilities with a present day ear and self-awareness.

Krakatau (which also features Hyperborea drummer Dylan Lieberman) are seeing their debut LP released on American label Trouble in Mind Records later in June. While the first Hyperborea album is being released by local electronic music label This Thing later in the year.
