SOUL CLASH: The Underground Showcase brings together some Melbourne’s finest and funkiest for your dancing pleasure. Joining the Northside DJs will be party emcee REMI fresh from releasing his debut record ‘Raw x Infinity’ on vinyl and 7 piece afrofunk powerhouse The Seven Ups.

Northside Records is an institution in Melbourne. The Fitzroy funk empire has been satisfying Melbourne’s taste for soul, latin, funk, African, hip-hop and disco music for more than 12 years. Instrumental in the burgeoning Melbourne soul scene it proudly champions funky new Melbourne bands and even has it’s own record label featuring local favourites Saskwatch. The first release was the acclaimed ‘Soul Of Melbourne’ compiled by The Bamboos Lance Ferguson and Northside owner and funky Bossman Chris Gill. He also presents ‘Get Down’ on RRR and appears on 774 spreading that soul as far and wide as he can. He makes increasingly rare DJ appearances so if you want the man to give it to you oh so good you’d better boogie on down to The Northside jam!

Young buck local emcee REMI is the fastest-rising Hip Hop star in Australia and is quickly gaining the attention of international tastemakers. His recent album ‘Raw X Infinity’ had been receiving awards, nominations and critical acclaim from all over the place including being awarded the 'Independent Hip Hop Album of the Year" at the AIR Awards. More importantly it was finally recently released on vinyl so Northside can now get down to the important task of feeding this album to the turntables of Melbourne.

The Seven Ups bring deep funk and heavy afrobeat! Blending influences from 1970s Lagos afrofunk with NYC street soul, The Seven Ups are a true original 7-piece party band. Expect unrestrained solos by unkempt horns over an unpretentious rhythm section whose only interest is laying it down. Their vinyl only 45 release ’The Boss’ has been flying off the shelves down at Northside and we are eagerly anticipating the album release. The Seven Ups are so deep in the game they are warming up for this by supporting The Budos Band!

Offering able assistance on the decks are Northside's team of hardy vinyl pushers, DJs Manchild (PBS ’The Breakdown' & The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra), Ms Butt (Congo Tardis), Lewis Can Cut (PBS ‘Space Is The Place & Congo Tardis) and Mista Rex (Blisterfinger).
