Papa Pilko & The Binrats Till The End Of The Road (PBS feature record)
Recently released on the wonderful local garage record label Off The Hip is the debut album by Sydney band Papa Pilko & The Binrats, Till The End Of The Road . With a strong emphasis on sax, Papa Pilko & The Binrats have released a great debut album that creates a voodoo soul and blues sound mixed with country rock.

The opening track 'On Your Own' sets the scene and gives the listener a great idea of what they are in for. Papa Pilko along with his Binrats have succeeded in creating an album that is quite unique and wonderful. Lead singer Cyrus Pilko will have you stomping your foot and singing along with him, right from the start, as he sings his stories of debauchery and woe. Till The End Of The Road , is one of those records that as soon as you’ve played it, you will want to put it straight back on again!

Nathaniel Rateliff and Night Sweats Self-titled (Featured on The Breakfast Spread)

After several albums of music with more of a folk bent, Nathaniel Rateliff has formed a new band and changed direction rather radically. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats is a band and album that have their feet very much in soul music. Although there has been a lot of retro soul music that has come out in the past few years, Nathaniel's folk background seems to have added a different dimension and has created a very strong album. Sure, there are several songs that look back at the 60s heavily such as 'I Need Never Get Old' and 'S.O.B' but it's the songs with a lighter touch like 'Wasting Time', 'Shake' and 'Mellow Out' which really stand out. It's a great album, but I do wonder how these songs will sound live. They may very well bring a bigger sound to these recordings and really give them an extra lift. Hopefully a tour of Australia is not far away.
