PBS, GUMBO KITCHEN AND SOUTHERN COMFORT PRESENT
New Orleans Fat Tuesday Festival.
Tuesday, February 28, Piazza Italia, Lygon Street Carlton.

Named after the literal French translation of ‘Mardi Gras’, Fat Tuesday celebrates the final day of Carnival season in New Orleans. In Melbourne, the same ideas of merrymaking, feasting and dancing will be on full display, with a free festival taking over Piazza Italia.

Melbourne’s own slice of Mardi Gras returns this February bigger and better than ever with a collaboration between Gumbo Kitchen, PBS and Southern Comfort, bringing the full New Orleans experience to Melbourne and introducing Australians to this fascinating city’s unique melting pot of music, food and culture.

Entertainment includes a funky second line brass band parade, kids face painting and more, culminating with the crowning of Melbourne’s King and Queen of Mardi Gras!

Live musical performances from Melbourne’s leading bluegrass band Mustered Courage, Horns Of Leroy, Jules Boult, Le Blanc Bros Cajun Band and Skyscraper Stan & The Commission Flats will keep attendees in a festival mood.

A rich smorgasbord of Southern food will be on offer from Gumbo Kitchen, Bluebonnet BBQ, Taco truck & Caribbean restaurant, Pretty Mama. Food will include Louisiana gumbo, Po’ Boys, Texas BBQ, tacos, jerk chicken and more, with a cocktail bar and craft beer on tap.

This year, Fat Tuesday will be free again for the local community, friends and families to enjoy. The Carnival will include, 2 Southern Comfort cocktail bars, with Abita Craft Beer & wine, Food Vendors, kids activities and more.
