by Nightmares on Wax

Known as Nightmares on Wax, George Evelyn has a pedigree that goes back to 1991 when his first album was released. He was one of the first acts to appear on the now legendary Warp label. Evelyn’s connection with Warp continues on his new album Feeling Good, which showcases his talents as a producer and DJ.

Over successive albums Nightmares on Wax has developed a distinctive sound and Feeling Good will satisfy fans of Evelyn’s earlier work. All the ingredients are here, catchy vocal samples, groovy bass lines and head nodding, down tempo drum beats. A subtle reggae influence has also crept into Evelyn’s musical vocabulary with this release. The album’s lead single, ‘Now Is The Time’, opens with a funky instrumental groove reminiscent of any previous Nightmares on Wax release. Then come the vocals, awash with reverb, that add a new hint of dub. For those looking for something to dance to Feelin Good offers a couple of more upbeat tracks. ‘Tapestry’ is certain to get the people at your next house party up and moving.

While not breaking new ground this album will be a delight to previous fans and undoubtedly win over some new disciples for the British producer.
